Train the trainer for carbon literacy

To make the drastic carbon reductions that are needed around the world, we need a global population that is educated, engaged and empowered to make the necessary changes.

That’s why we believe Carbon Literacy training is so important – and why we need to build an army of trainers to deliver it.

The Lighthouse Carbon Literacy – Train the Trainer course is designed to prepare you for delivering Carbon Literacy training, and support you on your journey to becoming a Carbon Literacy Trainer (CLT).

Claire Thew

An absolute must for those wanting to write their own Carbon Literacy course and invest in their own personal development as a trainer.

Emma and Farah have a wealth of experience and knowledge between them and the course was just the right mix of practical advice and tips when training, alongside more technical guidance on the Carbon Literacy standard.

After completing the course I now feel much more prepared to deliver and write many more Carbon Literacy courses.

FAQs

Yes – Carbon Literacy training can be taught by non-certified trainers. This often happens with peer-led training.

However, for professionals wishing to work across organisations or within larger organisations, Trainer status is desirable for demonstrating a level of commitment and experience, as well as for accessing additional support from the Carbon Literacy Project. If you wish to apply for qualified Trainer status you will need to meet the requirements of the Carbon Literacy Trainer Certification Scheme showcases a facilitator, trainer or consultant as:

  1. Carbon Literate
  2. Very familiar with the Carbon Literacy Standard
  3. Experienced at a specific level of CL course design and delivery, measured by:
    • Delivering training to 30 participants over 5 cohorts
    • Submitting an evidence pack including self-evaluation portfolio.

More information is available online on the Carbon Literacy Project’s website.

Carbon Literacy Facilitator, Carbon Literacy Trainer and Carbon Literacy Consultant are the different levels of Carbon Literacy Project-certified trainer. These different levels are reflective of experience and how many cohorts have been delivered. More information can be found on the Carbon Literacy Project’s website.

Before signing up for the Train the Trainer course, you should have completed a Carbon Literacy training course. Experience in delivering training is usually helpful.

If a certain percentage of an organisation’s workforce is Carbon Literate and they meet a number of other criteria, the organisation can apply to work towards becoming a Carbon Literate Organisation. The organisation can then be rewarded with a certified badge of Bronze, Silver or Gold. See this link for more information on becoming a CLO.

The Carbon Literacy Training Organisation accreditation identifies an organisation as having a depth of experience and expertise in designing and delivering quality Carbon Literacy training.

CLTO is primarily aimed at professional training organisations and consultancies that design and deliver Carbon Literacy training solutions at scale to many individuals and multiple organisations. Click here for more information on this topic.
